Pulling the Plug on “Modern Matriarch”?

I know, I know. What’s up with Modern Matriach? Have you been searching your mailbox for your daily does of literary girl power? Well ok, maybe not, but if you are one of my regular subscribers, you may have noticed the postings have been sporadic lately. This humble little blog began as the daily murmurings of a graduate student working her way through a hefty thesis. Much like Jane in “The Yellow Wallpaper”, I envisioned a summer of tracking an illusive female figure as she crawled through an unidentified pattern.  Then the unthinkable happened . . .

people started paying attention. Fellow bloggers stopped by to say, “Hey, I like your content.” Publicists began to send me emails, “I have a book I think you would enjoy. Would you like a review copy?” Oh my. I guess I need to wipe the drool off my chin and change into something a little more presentable.

I’ve decided it’s time to update Modern Matriarch. Next week, you will find a review of Ellen Meister’s book Secret Confessions of Applewood PTA as well as an interview with the author. The addition of contemporary literature is just one upgrade you will find in the revamped format. As a writer myself, I am not only interested in literary theory and analysis, but writing technique, the publishing process, and industry news. I’ve decided to share that passion with you.

Along with the addition of new content, Modern Matriach will be getting a new look, and possibly a new name. What do you think? Although, the content of MM has been praised, at least one blogger has dubbed the title ”cheesy.” Cheesy?! Well, ok  I’m open to a little constructive criticism. Does Modern Matriarch sound as contrived as a can of bacon flavored Cheese Wiz? Or, have you grown attached to the defiant image of a contemprary woman running her own show?

I don’t think the title is cheesy at all - in fact, I think it’s fab. I look forward to seeing your new visual identity. Congratulations on the success of your blog - sounds like you’re going to be a very busy girl. Woman. Ahem.

Personally, I hold any and all matriarchs in great favor. My opinion is that Modern Matriarch is perfect. But then I rarely find myself running in stride with any power brokers.

I like your blog and the meaning behind it, though this is my first look at it. I just found Modern Matriarch from a comment you left on Ellen Meister’s home page on Cafemom. With regards to the title, my initial reaction was to wonder why a young (you appear youthful in the avatar) would refer to herself as a matriarch. The term brings to mind old, wise women who are the leaders of their families or tribes. Perhaps you are the leader in your clan and the title suits? I would hardly call it “cheesy”. The design looks great. I look forward to reading more.
